CAN DATE STONES REALLY MAKE A DRINK?

In our quest to extract oil from date stones, we had repeatedly heard from people in Oman that date stones were historically used as a substitute for coffee when it was unavailable, with the beverage traditionally brewed as an infusion.

While experimenting with various roasts, grinds and brewing methods, we found that it works in most coffee-like applications according to personal preference.

WHERE ARE YOUR DATE STONES FROM?

The majestic date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) yields a sweet fruit - dates - enjoyed worldwide. Cocooned at the heart of each date is the stone: a nutritional powerhouse packing the power to grow an entire tree. We source our date stones from the magnificent wadis of Oman, where the date palms grow tall in the abundant desert sunlight.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE THE PRODUCT?

We do it all ourselves! We first soak and hand-wash our date stones to remove fruit remnants. We then sun-dry them in the desert air, roast them in our high-tech roaster and grind them in our Italian grinder. The grounds are then hand-packed and sealed, and sent off for delivery.

WHAT KIND OF NUTRITIONAL VALUE DOES NAWA HAVE?

We had samples of Nawa tested in Oman and the United States for mineral and trace element content, presence of heavy metals and pesticide residues.

Nawa contains calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc - all good stuff for the body!

We're also happy to report that Nawa does not contain any pesticide residues, as well as negligible levels of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead and mercury.

WHY DON'T YOU MAKE ANY HEALTH CLAIMS?

We're not here to make any claims about what Nawa can do for you. Instead, we're calling it for exactly what it is: a light, flavorful beverage that is strikingly similar to coffee without any of coffee's acidity, bitterness or upsetting qualities.

That being said, keep in mind that date seeds are capable of growing entire date palms in some of the world's harshest and most inhospitable climates, plus we've had Nawa tested to reveal the presence of several key minerals and trace elements.
